Vice President Kamala Harris said she called Donald Trump following his apparent second assassination attempt and told him, “There was no place for political violence.” As we previously shared, Donald Trump was the target of a second assassination attempt on Sunday (September 15).
While Trump was golfing at his International golf club in West Palm Beach, Florida, Secret Service agents noticed the muzzle of an AR-style rifle pushing through a fence line and they opened fire, causing the suspected gunman to flee the scene. Officials said the suspect in this incident, since identified as Ryan Wesley Routh, was about 300-500 yards from Trump. Eventually, Routh was captured by local authorities.
According to a male witness, Routh left the area in a Black Nissan and with the help of the witness’s account, the Martin County Sheriff’s Office was able to track down the suspect’s car, pull him over, and arrest him. Routh is facing two charges related to firearms. This incident arrived just two months and two days after the first attempt on Donald Trump’s life at his rally in Butler, PA on July 13 by gunman Thomas Matthew Crooks, whom Secret Service agents shot and killed at the scene.
Following the apparent second assassination attempt on Donald Trump, he broke his silence and released an alert from his campaign stating, “There were gunshots in my vicinity, but before rumors start spiraling out of control, I wanted you to hear this first: I AM SAFE AND WELL! Nothing will slow me down. I will NEVER SURRENDER! I will always love you for supporting me. Unity. Peace. Make America Great Again. May God Bless You.”
Trump’s opponent in the 2024 election, Vice President Kamala Harris, also addressed the shooting on X and tweeted, “I have been briefed on reports of gunshots fired near former President Trump and his property in Florida, and I am glad he is safe. Violence has no place in America.”
President Joe Biden later released a statement as well. Despite, well wishes from the Biden-Harris Administration, Donald Trump decided to take aim at them both and on Monday (September 16), Trump alleged that they may have contributed to the second attempted assassination against him. He suggested that what they’ve been saying about him influenced the actions of the suspected gunman.
In an interview with Fox Digital, Trump said, “[Routh] believed the rhetoric of Biden and Harris, and he acted on it. Their rhetoric is causing me to be shot at, when I am the one who is going to save the country, and they are the ones that are destroying the country — both from the inside and out.”
Trump continued to take things further and shared a lengthy message to his social media account Truth Social. He said, “The Rhetoric, Lies, as exemplified by the false statements made by Comrade Kamala Harris during the rigged and highly partisan ABC Debate, and all of the ridiculous lawsuits specifically designed to inflict damage on Joe’s, then Kamala’s, Political Opponent, ME, has taken politics in our Country to a whole new level of Hatred, Abuse, and Distrust. Because of this Communist Left Rhetoric, the bullets are flying, and it will only get worse!”
His post continued, “Allowing millions of people, from places unknown, to INVADE and take over our Country, is an unpardonable sin. OUR BORDERS MUST BE CLOSED, AND THE TERRORISTS, CRIMINALS, AND MENTALLY INSANE, IMMEDIATELY REMOVED FROM AMERICAN CITIES ND TOWNS, DEPORTED BACK TO THEIR COUNT[R]IES OF ORIGIN. WE WANT PEOPLE TO COME INTO OUR COUNTRY, BUT THEY MUST LOVE OUR NATION, AND COME IN LEGALLY AND THROUGH A SYSTEM OF MERIT. THE WORLD IS LAUGHING AT US AS FOOLS, THEY ARE STEALING OUR JOBS AND OUR WEALTH. WE CANNOT LET THEM LAUGH ANY LONGER. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!”
Trump’s comments, were also echoed by his running mate J.D. Vance, who accused the Biden-Harris Administration of causing the attacks on Trump while speaking at the Georgia Faith & Freedom Coalition dinner in Atlanta, Georgia on Monday (September 16). He also continued his comments on Tuesday (September 17) during a rally in Sparta, Michigan.
Now, it’s been learned that Vice President Kamala Harris called former President Donald Trump and briefly spoke about his apparent second assassination attempt on Sunday. Speaking with a panel at the National Association of Black Journalists (NABJ) on Tuesday (September 17).
She said, “I checked on to see if he was okay. And, I told him what I have said publicly – there’s no place for political violence in our country. I am in this election and this race for many reasons, including to fight for our democracy, and in a democracy, there is no place for political violence. We can and should have healthy debates and discussions, and disagreements, but not resort to violence to resolve those issues.”
