Donald Trump claims that the Iranian government has attempted to assassinate him in the past and believes they will make further attempts in the future.
The former President and current Republican presidential candidate shared details of a supposed Iranian assassination scheme on his Truth Social platform, stating that “Big threats on my life by Iran. The entire U.S. Military is watching and waiting. Moves were already made by Iran that didn’t work out, but they will try again. Not a good situation for anyone. I am surrounded by more men, guns, and weapons than I have ever seen before. Thank you to Congress for unanimously approving far more money to Secret Service – Zero “NO” Votes, strictly bipartisan. Nice to see Republicans and Democrats get together on something. An attack on a former President is a Death Wish for the attacker!”
Trump’s campaign has indicated that he has received briefings from U.S. intelligence agencies regarding “genuine and specific threats” from Iran aimed at assassinating him as part of an effort to create instability and chaos in the United States.
The tensions between Iran and Trump are said to be linked to the January 2020 assassination of Qasem Soleimani, which occurred during a drone strike ordered by Trump while he was in office.
Iran has promised to seek retribution, and there have also been reported assassination attempts targeting Trump’s former National Security Advisor, John Bolton, and former Secretary of State, Mike Pompeo.
In light of the purported threats, Trump expressed his gratitude to Congress for allocating additional funds to the Secret Service, noting that it’s encouraging to see bipartisan support on this issue.
