Oop! Before New York City Mayor Eric Adams got indicted, Harlem rapper Cam’ron was offered the Key to New York City but he turned it down, but he says he turned it down wanting “nothing to do with the keys to the city, the n***as giving them out, or the n***as that previously had them.”
As we previously shared, on September 25, NYC Mayor Eric Adams was indicted by a grand jury amid a federal corruption investigation. The following day, it was learned that he was charged with five criminal counts including bribery, conspiracy to commit wire fraud, and solicitation of a contribution by a foreign national. After surrendering to authorities, on September 27, Mayor Adams pleaded not guilty on all counts.
While discussing New York City Mayor Eric Adams and his recent indictment on his podcast ‘It Is What It Is,’ rapper Cam’ron told his co-host MASE that he was offered the Key to New York City from Mayor Eric Adams and his office, but he turned it down. As the conversation began, Cam’ron and MASE checked in with each other, which quickly led to MASE sending a slick shot at his former boss, Sean “Diddy” Combs, who’s been recently indicted on sex trafficking, prostitution, and racketeering charges.

The conversation then transitioned into Cam asking about NYC Mayor Eric Adams also getting indicted. MASE replied, “Yeah, it’s getting crazy, man.” Cam’ron went on to explain, “You know what’s crazy? This is word to everything I love. Last month, they called me to see if I wanted the key to the city. I said, ‘I don’t want to be involved with nothin’.”
Cam’ron continued, “They offered me that sh*t. They said, ‘Cam, you want the key?’ I said, ‘That ain’t really up my alley right now, I’m cool with the key to New York City, man.’” Cam added, “Yo, word to blood. That’s word to everything I love. ‘Yo, Cam, you interested in the key to the city?’ What does that get you, though?”
MASE went on to ask if it was Mayor Eric Adams who called him up and specifically asked him if he wanted the Key to New York City. Cam clarified that it was the Mayor’s office who called him. Cam then alluded to Diddy being awarded the Key to New York City from Mayor Eric Adams back in September 2023.
However, he was eventually asked to return the key to the city in May 2024 upon mounting sexual assault and abuse lawsuits and a “chilling” 2016 video showing the now-disgraced mogul assaulting his ex-girlfriend Casandra “Cassie” Ventura. In June 2024, he officially gave the Key to the City back.
Cam’ron said, “What does that get you? I don’t want nothing that has to do with the keys to the city, the n***as giving them out, or the n***as that previously had them. I don’t got nothing to do with the key to the city. I don’t got nothing to do with that.” Cam’ron continued to joke, “I actually got to go to New York this weekend…for about 20 minutes.” MASE added, “Yeah, n***as is trying to stay out of New York.” Cam quipped, “Yeah, it’s hot, pause. It’s quiet, man.”
