Travis Scott is set to be honored at the 2024 BET Hip Hop Awards with the coveted ‘I Am Hip Hop’ award.
BET announced the news on Tuesday (October 1), ahead of the annual show.
In a statement, BET’s EVP of specials, music programming and music strategy, Connie Orlando, said: “Travis Scott is a visionary artist who continues to push the boundaries of music, culture, and live performance.
“With his unmatched creativity and relentless passion, he has redefined what it means to be a captivating, inspiring entertainer within the hip hop genre. We look forward to celebrating him at BET Hip Hop Awards 2024.”
Marley Marl was the 2023 recipient, while other past honorees include Lil Wayne, Snoop Dogg, Ice Cube, LL Cool J, Nelly, Lil Kim and more.
The 2024 BET Hip Hop Awards will go down on October 8 and this year will take place in Las Vegas for the first time ever. The show will air on the channel one week later on October 15 at 8p local time. Fat Joe will return to host for the third year in a row.
Travis Scott will also perform at the show, where he’s nominated in six different categories, including song of the year for “FE!N.”
It’s been a great year for La Flame, who recently nabbed his fourth No. 1 on the Billboard 200 with his decade-old mixtape Days Before Rodeo last month.
After initially debuting at number two with over 360,000 equivalent units before tumbling down the chart down to number 106, the project enjoyed a historic surge to the top spot weeks later thanks almost entirely to vinyl sales.
According to Billboard, Days Before Rodeo earned 156,000 equivalent units in its fourth week, with 149,000 of that figure comprised of vinyl sales which were made exclusively through the rapper’s website.
It’s the biggest ever sales week for a rap album on vinyl, and the sixth largest across all genres since tracking began in 1991.
Scott previously held the record within Hip Hop with his 2023 album Utopia, which sold 93,000 viny copies in a single week.
