Homemaking TV personalist and author Martha Stewart is making a confession about being unfaithful to her ex-husband Andrew “Andy” Stewart, to whom she was married from 1961 to 1990. Nearly three decades after their marriage ended, Martha Stewart admits to cheating on her ex-husband Andy in her upcoming documentary, ‘Martha,’ which premieres on Netflix on October 30.
The official synopsis of the documentary, which is directed by R.J. Cutler (who’s behind ‘Billie Eilish: The World’s a Little Blurry‘ and ‘Elton John: Never Too Late‘), states, “Martha draws on hundreds of hours of intimate interviews with Stewart and those from her inner circle, along with Stewart’s private archives of diaries, letters, and never-seen-before footage.”

The summary continued, “The film illuminates Stewart’s upbringing in a working-class family, compels us to reconsider the scandal that sent her to prison, and heralds her post-prison reinvention as the original influencer who’s still captivating new generations of fans.”
On Thursday (October 10), Netflix debuted the trailer to Stewart’s new doc, where she, at one point, confesses to having cheated on Andy during their marriage. In the ‘Martha‘ trailer, Stewart says, “Things look fabulous, but are they?” Stewart then offers some advice to young women.

She said, “Young women, listen to my advice. If you’re married and your husband starts to cheat on you, he’s a piece of sh*t. Get out of that marriage.” The clip then cuts to the producer asking Martha Stewart, “Didn’t you have an affair early on?” Stewart quips, “Yeah, but I don’t think Andy ever knew about that.”
Martha Stewart and her ex-husband Andy welcomed a daughter, Alexis, in 1965, four years after they got married. Before this, Martha and Andy met on a blind date when he was 23 years old and a law student at Yale University. Stewart, who is now 83 years old, was 19 at the time.

After Martha Stewart and Andy separated in 1987, they divorced three years later, and Andy went on to marry his ex-wife’s former assistant, Robyn Fairclough. The two eventually divorced and Andy went on to marry his current wife, Shyla Nelson Stewart. The couple later became Publisher Emeritus, and president and CEO, respectively, of Fieldstone Publishing.
Speaking on divorce with PEOPLE in 2020, Martha Stewart called it a “terrible thing.” She explained, “Getting divorced was a terrible thing for me because we were the first to divorce in my family. And that we haven’t spoken since the divorce is even more painful. But I’m very strong, and I’m very motivated to get on with life.”
