Ray J has always been celebrated as a remarkable entertainer—a singer, comedian, network owner, and reality star. However, with that acclaim comes the struggle for his “truth” to be taken seriously.
The star explored this topic in depth during his appearance on Pastor Jamal’s podcast, which was a revised version following Ray J’s outburst about the original show that he ultimately did not approve of.
During the sit-down interview, Ray discussed a pivotal moment when he attempted to commit suicide and shared that those feelings still linger. Take a listen below:
“They’ll kill me for this.”
Ray J says he thought about suicide a lot and reveals he started wearing a bulletproof vest because he’s dealing with billionaires who are trying to keep their image clean and will do anything to shut down the truth.

As previously reported, earlier this year, Ray J was involved in a physical altercation with Zeus Network CEO Lemuel Plummer outside of rapper GloRilla’s BET Awards afterparty. Footage shared online captured the two men engaged in a heated conversation before Ray J tried to swing at Plummer. Security intervened, blocking Ray J and removing him from the situation.
After the altercation, he turned to social media to post a cryptic message. He said at the time: “THEY PAID ME TO SHUT UP AND I DID! I FEEL BAD AND I HATE MYSELF FOR IT! I DON’T WANT ANY MORE OF YOUR DIRTY MONEY!!” He continued, “I promise you I will be [free] of it all and the world can move on with what is real for me no matter the consequences I have to face on the other side.”
Despite making strides in his recovery from that incident, it’s evident that it still weighs heavily on him.
Recently, Ray has expressed that he feels someone is trying to kill him, though he has not named that individual. During his interview, he also revealed to Pastor Jamal that he wears a bulletproof vest due to his fear of potential harm while attempting to share his truth. Pastor Jamal reassured him of his protection by God and offered prayers that nothing harmful would come his way.
Fans are relieved to see the two men together after Ray’s tumultuous online posts, for which he has also since apologized.
“PASTOR BRYANT! I take full accountability for my words! I apologize to you and the whole church community! What I did might be unforgivable, but I still want you to know that I’m sorry and it was not ok what I did. I would love to pray with you, and hopefully we can work this out, and maybe… just maybe you can help me moving forward. I’m human, and I made a big mistake with this one.”
