Donald Trump Picks Dr. Oz to Run Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services

There’s another familiar face that will be a part of Donald Trump’s administration. The president-elect has chosen Mehmet Oz, the celebrity physician and TV personality known as Dr. Oz, to be the administrator of the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services.

Donald Trump said in a statement Tuesday,
“I am very pleased to nominate Dr. Mehmet Oz to serve as the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) Administrator,” Donald Trump stated. “America is facing a Healthcare Crisis, and there may be no Physician more qualified and capable than Dr. Oz to Make America Healthy Again. He is an eminent Physician, Heart Surgeon, Inventor, and World-Class Communicator, who has been at the forefront of healthy living for decades. Dr. Oz will work closely with Robert F. Kennedy Jr. to take on the illness industrial complex and all the horrible chronic diseases left in its wake.”

He added, “I have known Dr. Oz for many years, and I am confident he will fight to ensure everyone in America receives the best possible Healthcare, so our Country can be Great and Healthy Again!”

Oz, who ran unsuccessfully for the U.S. Senate in Pennsylvania, losing to now-Sen. John Fetterman (D-Pa.), released a statement of his own on X, thanking Donald Trump for tapping him for the role. He said, “I am honored to be nominated by @realDonaldTrump to lead CMS. I look forward to serving my country to Make America Healthy Again under the leadership of HHS Secretary @RobertKennedyJr.”

As previously reported, Robert F. Kennedy Jr. — a former presidential candidate with a history of spreading conspiracy theories, including those about vaccines — was recently named by Trump as his next secretary of the Department of Health and Human Services.

“The Safety and Health of all Americans is the most important role of any Administration, and HHS will play a big role in helping ensure that everybody will be protected from harmful chemicals, pollutants, pesticides, pharmaceutical products, and food additives that have contributed to the overwhelming Health Crisis in this Country,” Trump stated in a post on X. “Mr. Kennedy will restore these Agencies to the traditions of Gold Standard Scientific Research, and beacons of Transparency, to end the Chronic Disease epidemic and to Make America Great and Healthy Again!”

Trump’s latest pick continues a trend of selecting television figures for key administration roles. He has also chosen Pete Hegseth for defense secretary and Doug Collins for VA secretary.
