Daisy Link, 29, is currently incarcerated at the Knight Correctional Center for allegedly murdering her boyfriend by shooting him in the leg. Joan Depaz, 23, is also imprisoned at the facility on unrelated murder charges. Despite their circumstances, the inmates developed a romantic relationship through the jail’s air conditioning vents. According to WSVN, Depaz always dreamed of having a child and chose Link to carry his baby.

Depaz collected his semen, sealed it in plastic wrap, and attached it to a makeshift rope made from bedding material, which Link pulled through the vent. “From there, I had placed it inside of, you know, the yeast infection applicators? I had placed it inside of there and then from there, yeah, I administered it,” she explained. She mentioned that it only took her a few attempts, and on June 19, Link gave birth to a baby girl at Jackson Memorial Hospital. The baby now resides with Depaz’s mother.

Their affair has launched an internal affairs investigation into Miami-Dade Corrections. Officials are currently seeking how the pregnancy occurred without detection and why security protocols failed.

The parents remain in contact with their daughter through video calls.
