Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes has been fined over $14,000 for making a gesture that the NFL called “violent” during a game against the Buffalo Bills last week.
Videos online show Mahomes raising his hands as if he were shooting a firearm during the fourth quarter of the November 17 game, which the Bills won 30-21. The NFL categorized the gesture as “unsportsmanlike conduct” and issued a fine of $14,069 to Mahomes.

“To protect players from unnecessary risk and preserve competitive balance and game integrity, the NFL and NFL Players Association have agreed on a set of game-related rules violations that may result in accountability measures,” the NFL said in their website.
This isn’t the first instance of Mahomes being penalized for unsportsmanlike behavior in a game against the Buffalo Bills. In December of last year, he received a $50,000 fine for shouting at and berating referees during a game.
Mahomes acknowledged the repercussions of his behavior and stated that he would take the lesson to heart, according to ESPN.
Meanwhile, both Mahomes and standout tight end Travis Kelce have recently been victims of home burglaries, which led the NFL and NBA to advise their players on safety precautions.
