We haven’t heard much from Wendy Williams or her team but now her guardian is sharing the heartbreaking reason why. According to court documents obtained by The Sun, Wendy is reportedly “permanently incapacitated” due to her ongoing battle with dementia. The heavy news got fans sending love and prayers her way.
As many are aware, Sabrina Morrissey, Wendy’s guardian, is currently locked in a legal struggle with Lifetime over their documentary titled “Where is Wendy Williams?” The legal docs revealed Wendy’s health status as she’s labeled “an acclaimed entertainer who, tragically, has been afflicted by early-onset dementia and, as a result, has become cognitively impaired and permanently incapacitated.”
However, Morrissey’s legal crew is asking the court to keep some details of Wendy’s health, family, and finances under wraps to protect her privacy. “We respectfully request that the Court grant Plaintiff’s motion for limited redactions to protect non-public information from the Guardianship Proceeding that has been placed under seal by the court overseeing that proceeding,” the papers state.
So, what led to this all of this? It started back when Wells Fargo froze Wendy’s bank accounts, saying she wasn’t in the right state of mind to manage her finances in 2022. That’s when her health really took a nosedive, and things got complicated.
Earlier this year, her healthcare team revealed that she was diagnosed with primary progressive aphasia and frontotemporal dementia. “Aphasia, a condition affecting language and communication abilities, and frontotemporal dementia, a progressive disorder impacting behavior and cognitive functions, have already presented significant hurdles in Wendy’s life,” they said.
And while Morrissey tried to block the release of that Lifetime documentary, arguing that had she been in the right state of mind, she wouldn’t have agreed to do it or have it released in the way it was. However, that wasn’t enough to convince the judge who ruled that stopping the film would be an “impermissible prior restraint on speech” under the First Amendment. Now, the case is in federal court, and we’re all just hoping for the best for Wendy.
As her fans, all we can do is keep sending positive vibes and hope she finds some peace in this tough time. Wendy has given everyone so much laughter and real talk over the years, and now many have turned to show her some love right back. Keep fighting, Wendy!
