Turkey Leg Hut’s problems had been going on for months due to financial issues, legal battles, and health code violations. KHOU 11 reports the restaurant owed its landlord $100,000, and earlier this year, bankruptcy filings revealed debts of nearly $5 million. The Houston Health Department shut down the restaurant, citing 35 health code violations, including conditions that posed an imminent threat to public health. However, Turkey Leg Hut’s financial issues are not new.
In 2018, co-owner Nakia Price faced a lawsuit for allegedly failing to pay rent after assuming Turkey Leg Hut’s lease, and the case remains unsolved. Additionally, US Foods sued the company in 2022 for over $1.2 million, alleging unpaid invoices and fees.
