Pro-Palestinian Demonstrators Arrested at Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade
On a day traditionally marked by festive celebrations and Thanksgiving cheer, a group of pro-Palestinian protesters decided to briefly halt the iconic Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade in Manhattan. The demonstration unfolded in front of the beloved Ronald McDonald float but the scene quickly escalated as the New York Police Department (NYPD) intervened to restore order, leading to the arrest of 21 individuals.
The protest began just after 9:30 a.m. at West 55th Street, where activists jumped over barricades to make their presence felt. Many demonstrators sat on the ground, locking arms and chanting the rallying cry “Free, free Palestine,” representing a plea for attention to the ongoing issues in the region. Behind them was also a large banner reading “Don’t celebrate genocide! Arms embargo now.”
As the parade proceeded, the reaction from the crowd was mixed. Initially, many attendees expressed their displeasure at the disruption, booing the protesters and calling for them to clear the way. However, the sentiment shifted as police began to remove the demonstrators from the road. Cheers erupted from the crowd as officers picked up protesters and dragged them away.

The interruption lasted for approximately five minutes, a brief moment in a parade that has become a staple of Thanksgiving for millions. The NYPD swiftly acted to clear the route, ensuring that the festivities could continue without further delay. Following the removal of the protesters, charges against them were reported to be pending, although details regarding the nature of these charges have yet to be disclosed.
This event marks the second consecutive year that pro-Palestinian activists have chosen the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade as a platform for their message.
