Deamonte Kendrick, better known as Yak Gotti, found himself in a dangerous situation while locked up, waiting for that jury to drop a verdict. The rapper, who’s been riding alongside Young Thug through this intense legal battle, got stabbed in jail on Sunday.
His lawyer, Doug Weinstein, confirmed reports on social media, saying, “While he sounded tired, I expect him to make a full recovery.”
Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office also said in a statement, “Deamonte Kendrick, also known as rapper Yak Gotti, and another jail resident were in a physical altercation on Sunday, December 1. Kendrick received treatment for minor injuries from a sharp object at the Fulton County Jail. The incident occurred at the South Annex in Union City where both men were being housed. Kendrick will be in court today. This is an active investigation to determine the aggressor in this incident and if charges will be pending.”
Yak Gotti is one of the two men indicted with Young Thug back in May 2022. They’ve been tangled up in some serious charges, including trying to violate Georgia’s Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act. It’s been a long road—jury selection kicked off nearly two years ago, and the opening statements hit the floor a year back. Now, those jurors are back in the mix, trying to figure out if Kendrick and co-defendant Shannon Stillwell are guilty of gang, murder, drug, and gun charges.
Prosecutors are pushing hard, trying to paint YSL (Young Slime Life) as a criminal street gang behind a whole mess of crimes. But the defense team have been firing back, insisting that YSL is just the name of a record label, Young Stoner Life, and not a gang at all.
In the meantime, four of the defendants, including Young Thug himself—whose real name is Jeffery Williams—pleaded guilty back in October and got out on probation. But for Yak Gotti and Stillwell, it’s a different story… They turned down plea deals after a week of negotiations, and their legal teams decided to keep their evidence and witnesses on the sidelines.
As the clock ticks down to Monday, all eyes will be on the courtroom. Will Yak Gotti rise up from this setback, or will the weight of the charges pull him under? Socialites, what do you think? Sound off in the comment box below!
