The broadcast prompted viewers to call the station, expressing concern for Harris’s well-being. NBC4 meteorologist Ryan Miller initially reassured the public that he was “fine.” According to the New York Post, the station revised its stance on Monday. “Last week, Leon appeared unwell while anchoring News4 at 6. Leon will be stepping away from the anchor desk to focus on health issues,” the station said. They announced his decision to step down due to health concerns and expressed gratitude to viewers for their support.
NBC4 did not specify the details of Harris’ health challenges or provide a date for his return. Viewers have expressed an outpouring of support, sending their well wishes for Harris and hoping for his speedy recovery. Harris, who joined NBC in 2017, has faced both professional and personal challenges in the past. In March 2022, he opened up about his struggle with alcoholism following a DUI-related car accident, which resulted in a 10-day jail sentence.
