President-elect Donald Trump has been named Time’s “Person Of The Year.” Yup you read that right.
While one might assume that this title would be awarded to someone who consistently embodies positivity, the publication’s editor-in-chief, Sam Jacobs, explained that Trump won for “marshaling a comeback of historic proportions, for driving a once-in-a-generation political realignment, for reshaping the American presidency and altering America’s role in the world.”
Jacobs further noted that for 97 years, Time editors have selected the individual who “for better or for worse, did the most to shape the world and the headlines over the past 12 months.” It’s worth mentioning that Trump received the same honor in 2016 after defeating Hillary Clinton… I guess making it seem fitting to recognize him again after his recent victory over Kamala Harris.
Donald Trump celebrated this title by ringing the bell at the New York Stock Exchange in New York City on Thursday. He was accompanied by his wife, Melania Trump, and daughters, Ivanka Trump and Tiffany Trump. Vice President-elect JD Vance was also present. Trump expressed his gratitude, saying, “This is an honor, a tremendous honor. I brought some of our patriots along with us. They’re going to do a beautiful job for you for the next four years, and it’s really been something very special.”

While this moment is a celebration for Donald Trump, it has elicited mixed reactions online. One individual tweeted on X, “I’m not even shocked at this point. TIME magazine has always chosen sketchy people most of the time since the beginning. They don’t give a f***.” Another remarked, “Time Magazine decided to name pathological liar, convicted felon & adjudicated rapist, Donald Trump, their Person of the Year. The unrelenting attempts by the media to sane-wash this despicable man go to the heart of what brought him into power in the first place.”
Conversely, some congratulated him. A third user commented, “TIME Magazine has named US President-elect Donald Trump Person of the Year. I’m not surprised, from wet, cold London. Trump did something remarkable this year. What a spectacular comeback in American politics! Trump is a real fighter. I have huge respect for the man.” Here’s what other people had to say:

Donald Trump, a self-confessed sexual assaulter, being named Time’s Person of the Year over Gisele Pelicot, who was drugged & raped by her husband & 100 men for YEARS, and who waived anonymity to change the world for women, shows you exactly why women are rightly fucking ANGRY. pic.twitter.com/HVNtbwTlpj
