TRENDING RUMORS
– Manchester City are considering offloading centre-back Rúben Dias, reports TEAMtalk. Manager Pep Guardiola is keen to strengthen his defence in the next transfer window, and the 27-year-old Portugal international is reportedly one of the options that could go the other way, with Chelsea keeping tabs on his situation. The Citizens have previously been linked with interest in Crystal Palace defender Marc Guéhi.
– Liverpool are interested in a move for Brighton & Hove Albion forward João Pedro, reports UOL. The Reds are preparing to begin negotiations for the 23-year-old Brazilian when the January transfer window opens, having followed his progress for five years. He has been one of the in-form players in the Premier League so far this season, with four goals and three assists in nine appearances, and Liverpool manager Arne Slot believes he will be a strong fit for his system.
– Thomas Partey could leave Arsenal for nothing next summer if the club is unable to persuade the 31-year-old to extend his existing contract, which runs out at the end of the season, reports the Mirror. The midfielder is free to talk to other clubs from Jan. 1 as he enters the final six months of his current agreement, and as yet the Gunners have failed to make any progress in their discussions over a new deal with the Ghanaian. Partey has emerged as a key figure for Arsenal this season, and his form is being monitored by clubs in Saudi Arabia and across Europe.
– Manchester City are planning a rebuild over the next two transfer windows, reports the Telegraph. They believe manager Pep Guardiola is keen to update his ailing squad with four to six new players in that timeframe, with the first of those signings to come in January. Hugo Viana, who is set to take over from current director of football Txiki Begiristain at the end of the current campaign, is believed to be involved in the process ahead of his arrival, as City look to lower the average age of the squad and inject some fresh impetus to a side that has lost seven of the last 10 games.
– Manchester United defender Victor Lindelöf could leave the club in January, with AC Milan and clubs from Saudi Arabia all keen to land the Swedish defender, reports Teamtalk. The 30-year-old’s current contract comes to an end in the summer and he is unlikely to be offered a new deal, with United instead hoping to freshen up their squad under new boss Ruben Amorim. Lindelöf is free to sign a pre-contract agreement in January and move for nothing in the summer, though with several other Italian clubs also eyeing a move for the experienced defender, an offer could be forthcoming when the window opens in the new year.
EXPERT TAKE
ESPN’s Sam Tighe takes a closer look at why top clubs might be looking at Brighton & Hove Albion forward João Pedro:
Reports that João Pedro is of interest to Liverpool should come as no surprise.
Not only are the Reds seemingly searching for answers in the centre-forward position — Diogo Jota struggles with injuries, while question marks abound over Darwin Núñez’s future — but Pedro has blossomed into a player that gives off faint echoes of a recent Liverpool great: Roberto Firmino.
He’s comfortable playing as the No. 9 and finishing chances, but almost equally adept at dropping toward the ball, linking play and moving wide to find space. He’s skilful and tricky, often knocking the ball around players or through their legs, and has a great understanding for how play develops around him — and how to pick out the right pass. Brighton’s speedy wide players love playing off him, and you have to imagine Liverpool’s would too.
The Brazilian is just 23 years of age and is enjoying a very good season, evidenced by the fact his combined Expected Goals (xG) and Expected Assists (xAG) tally per 90 minutes sits at 0.6, level with James Maddison, Bruno Fernandes and Anthony Gordon among others.
