The move was announced on Wednesday (December 11) — days after her husband, Shawn “JAY-Z” Carter was named in an amended lawsuit against Sean “Diddy” Combs. The lawsuit was filed by a “Jane Doe” who accused each of taking turns raping her at VMAs after party in 2000 when she was 13.

Immediately after the lawsuit was announced, JAY-Z denied the claims and condemned its filing attorney, Houston’s Tony Buzbee. One day after the shocking lawsuit and online drama between Hov and Buzbee, the entertainment mogul and his family were spotted at the premiere of ‘Mufasa: The Lion King.’ Both Beyoncé and 12-year-old daughter Blue Ivy Carter voice the movie’s characters, “Nala” and “Kiara,” respectively.

Since JAY-Z’s lawsuit drama and Blue Ivy Carter’s feature film debut, it has now been announced that Beyoncé’s BeyGOOD Foundation has donated $100,000 to her hometown’s University of Houston Law Center’s Criminal Justice Clinic.

According to Leonard Baynes, Dean of the University of Houston Law Center, Beyoncé’s BeyGOOD Foundation’s $100,000 donation will help fund the center with a twofold impact. Baynes said the donation will both “help establish a full-time criminal justice clinic” and will also boost its “already excellent” programming.

Additionally, the University of Houston Law Center’s Criminal Justice Clinic is said to be just one of nine similar in-house clinics at the University of Houston, and now, with the newly-announced $100,000 donation from Beyoncé’s BeyGOOD Foundation, the Criminal Justice Clinic will now be able to maintain a full-time staff and director.

Baynes said, “I am delighted that the BeyGOOD Foundation has made this very generous gift to the UH Law Center. Not only will this funding help establish a full-time criminal justice clinic that provides pro bono legal services in our community, but it will also supercharge our already excellent criminal law and justice programming.”

Eloise Brice, Vice President for Advancement and Alumni at UH, said, “We are so appreciative to the BeyGOOD Foundation for this impactful gift. Our students will be able to benefit from practical, real-world experience and impart their expertise to members of our community who are in need of their services.”

Baynes further emphasized the mutual vision between Beyoncé’s BeyGOOD Foundation and that of her hometown’s University of Houston Law Center’s Criminal Justice Clinic.

He said, “At UH Law, we envision a legal profession where ‘everyone has the opportunity to prosper’, as BeyGOOD envisions, and we will achieve this vision by providing access to strong and effective legal representation in criminal proceedings. And together, through this gift, the BeyGOOD Foundation and UHLC will shepherd the next generation of criminal justice attorneys in the city of Houston, the state of Texas, and the nation.”

Beyoncé’s BeyGOOD Foundation is a public charity foundation founded by the superstar back in 2013. In the past, the foundation has supported a slew of efforts like assistance for those affected by the Flint water crisis, efforts to help Haiti recover from an earthquake, pandemic-related programs, and help to Black-owned small businesses.
