Over 200 Republican Alum For George Bush, John McCain, Or Mitt Romney Endorse Kamala Harris

More Than 200 Republican Staffers Who Aided George Bush, John McCain, Or Mitt Romney Endorse Kamala Harris For President

More than 200 Republican staffers who have aided either former President George Bush, late Senator John McCain (R-Arizona), or former Senator Mitt Romney (R-Utah) have endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris for president over former President Donald Trump.

It’s reported that the beef between the camps of Trump, Bush, McCain, and Romney has been well-documented. Notably, Romney voted to impeach Trump as a Senator and said he would not support him in the 2024 election; however, he hasn’t endorsed Harris either. Bush and his family have a long feud with Trump and did not attend last month’s Republican National Convention (RNC) in Milwaukee.

In 2015, Trump, as a candidate, said McCain was “not a war hero,” and his widow, Cindy McCain, has endorsed President Joe Biden over Trump. On Monday (August 26), ABC News reported that they obtained an open letter revealing the news.

The letter  — which was written by alums of the three Republican presidential nominees prior to former President Donald Trump — arrives on the heels of the Democratic National Convention (DNC) last week in Chicago. At least five former aides to former President George H.W. Bush have also signed the letter, which includes 238 signatures total. Additionally, a group of about 150 anti-Trump former staffers of Bush, McCain, and Romney also pledged their support for President Joe Biden in the 2020 election with running mate Kamala Harris.

Among those who signed the letter in support of VP Kamala Harris and her running mate Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, include: former chiefs of staff for McCain (Mark Salter and Chris Koch); former legislative director for McCain (Joe Donoghue); press secretary for McCain’s 2008 campaign (Jennifer Lux); and George H.W. Bush’s longtime chief of staff (Jean Becker).

Additionally, there is: Romney’s 2012 campaign finance chair (David Nierenberg); George W. Bush’s Secretary of Energy (David Garman); and the former advisor to both George W. Bush and Vice President Mike Pence (Olivia Troye — who also spoke at the DNC last week).

In the letter, it partially reads, “We reunite today, joined by new George H.W. Bush alumni, to reinforce our 2020 statements and, for the first time, jointly declare that we’re voting for Vice President Kamala Harris and Gov. Tim Walz this November.” It continues, ”Of course, we have plenty of honest, ideological disagreements with Vice President Harris and Gov. Walz. That’s to be expected. The alternative, however, is simply untenable.”

The hundreds of Republican staffers also addressed the Heritage Foundation’s policy blueprint that Trump’s campaign has sought to distance itself from. The letter reads, “At home, another four years of Donald Trump’s chaotic leadership, this time focused on advancing the dangerous goals of Project 2025, will hurt real, everyday people and weaken our sacred institutions. Abroad, democratic movements will be irreparably jeopardized as Trump and his acolyte JD Vance kowtow to dictators like Vladimir Putin while turning their backs on our allies. We can’t let that happen.”
