Christmas night turned into complete chaos at Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport. Four people ended up in the hospital after a fight that escalated into gunfire, with one woman in serious condition fighting for her life — a situation nobody should face, especially during what’s supposed to be a time of joy and togetherness.
So what the heck happened? According to locals reports, around 9:45 p.m., police got the call to Terminal 4, where a restaurant was the scene of the drama. They found three folks wounded—two men stable but hurt, and one lady seriously injured. Police are saying it all started with a physical altercation among a group of people who knew each other. Then, just like that, one pulled out a gun, and things spiraled out of control.
Sgt. Mayra Reeson shared that, thankfully, nobody else was hurt in the crowd, and they managed to detain two individuals involved in the mess. “I believe this was a family dispute that escalated,” Phoenix police Sgt. Mayra Reeson told reporters early Thursday.

And as if that wasn’t enough, later that night, another man showed up at the airport packing heat, causing even more concern. It’s wild how things can escalate so quickly. Thankfully, the airport operations, including the security checkpoints and the PHX Sky Train, weren’t significantly affected, but it’s still a lot to process.
The shelter in place that was initiated when the chaos erupted has since been lifted. “Everything was resumed fairly quickly,” Reeson added.
