The NBA dropped a $100,000 fine on Timberwolves All-Star Anthony Edwards for “using profane language during a live television interview.”
The league explained that the hefty fine was partly due to Edwards’ track record of reckless language in media situations. This latest incident went down after Minnesota’s nail-biting 113-112 victory over the Houston Rockets on Friday. Edwards played a crucial role, hitting a game-winning 3-pointer after trailing 106-90, sealing the comeback.
“I gotta go get it, s***,” Edwards said. “Nickeil found me. He cut me off. I’m like, s***, I’m going for the win. Like Gilbert Arenas said, ‘I don’t do overtime.’ So f*** it.”
In the postgame interview, he was anything but restrained, letting loose with his words live on air. This isn’t the first time Edwards has stirred the pot with his language; he previously got hit with a $25,000 fine in December for dropping two f-bombs after a win against the Warriors.
“Naz [Reid] and Julius [Randle] are f***ing playing defense,” Edwards told reporters on Dec. 6. “I’ve never seen them play defense before. So that’s f***ing incredible. And he’s right here, put the camera on him. Guarding his ass off.”

He also faced a $35,000 fine last November for giving a Kings fan the finger in Sacramento. Just recently, he racked up a $75,000 fine for calling the refs “f***ing terrible” after a Dec. 21 loss to the Warriors.
With this latest fine, Edwards’ total for the 2024-25 season hits $235,000. And that’s just the tip of the iceberg; he’s had penalties in previous seasons for similar behavior. The NBA has made it clear that as a repeat offender, he could face even bigger fines down the line.
Edwards is set to make $42.2 million this season as part of his five-year, $244.6 million rookie contract extension. Clearly, he’s willing to set aside some of that cash to speak his mind.
