Yolanda Saldívar, the woman who fatally shot 23-year-old singer Selena Quintanilla-Perez on March 31, 1995, is attempting to secure her release from prison.
Miss Saldívar, who is currently serving a life sentence for the horrific murder of the Tejano icon, has reportedly filed paperwork to seek her release next year, according to the New York Post. While serving her sentence at the Patrick O’Daniel Unit in Gatesville, she has maintained a pristine record, a Texas Department of Criminal Justice official informed the outlet, and because of that, she may have a chance at being freed.
However, she may have to contend with more than just a legal battle, as fellow inmates have revealed to the NYP that Saldívar has “a bounty on her head” within the prison walls! Former prisoner Yesenia Dominguez told the Post that the now 65-year-old murderer has been on everybody’s radar. She stated: “Everyone was always like, ‘Let me have five minutes with that b*tch.’” Former inmate Marisol Lopez added, “The guards keep her away from everyone else because she’s hated so much. If she were out [in general population], someone would try to take her down.” Saldívar is reportedly residing in special protective housing while behind bars.
According to the TDCJ, Selena’s family will likely receive official notice in January regarding Saldívar’s parole hearing. A hearing in March will determine whether she will be released.
