Michelle Obama is saving herself a headache and a hectic day as the former First Lady has chosen not to attend Donald Trump’s upcoming inauguration.
The Office of Barack and Michelle Obama confirmed the news this Tuesday in a statement that read, “Former President Barack Obama is confirmed to attend the 60th Inaugural Ceremonies. Former First Lady Michelle Obama will not attend the upcoming inauguration.” No reason was provided for her absence. While it could simply be that she’s taking a break amid the intense political climate, others are sending her well wishes since no explanation was given for her decision.
It is noteworthy that Michelle Obama also did not attend President Jimmy Carter’s funeral last week, although Barack Obama was present.

During the ceremony, Donald Trump and Obama were captured having a friendly exchange, so friendly that Trump later remarked that he and former President Barack Obama “probably do” like each other.
He added while speaking to a reporter, “I didn’t realize how friendly it looked,” said Trump from his Mar-a-Lago club in Florida. He continued, “I said, ‘Boy, they look like two people that like each other.’ And we probably do,” Trump stated. “We have a little different philosophies, right? But we probably do. I don’t know. We just got along. But I got along with just about everybody.”
Donald Trump is scheduled to be inaugurated on a federal holiday, Martin Luther King Jr. Day, on Monday, January 20, 2025. The ceremony will take place at the U.S. Capitol building in Washington, D.C.
His presidential transition team has since released a schedule of official parties, gatherings, and other events that will surround his inauguration as the 47th U.S. president next week. The four-day schedule will include a fireworks show and three VIP events at Trump’s golf course outside Washington, D.C., as well as a celebratory MAGA rally on the eve of his swearing-in ceremony.
