Wendy Williams is trending, and not because of a scary headline. This time it’s because she is finally addressing all the rumors about her health head-on, leaving fans feeling a little more at ease. While appearing on the @breakfastclub this Thursday morning, Wendy held nothing back as she spoke out against her guardianship, saying, “I feel like I’m in prison.”
As previously reported, the former daytime host has been under a guardianship since 2022. Last year, her care team disclosed that she has been diagnosed with dementia and aphasia, which affect language and communication abilities. Reports followed that she was “cognitively impaired and permanently incapacitated,” all of which Wendy is denying. “Do I seem that way, god damn it?”
“I am not cognitively impaired, you know what I’m saying? But I feel like I’m in prison,” she said of the care facility where she has been living. “I’m in this place where the people are in their 90s and their 80s and their 70s… There’s something wrong with these people here on this floor.”
Wendy also talked about the two-part Lifetime documentary, “Where Is Wendy Williams?,” which aired shortly after the announcement of her diagnosis. Her guardian, Sabrina E. Morrissey, sued to try to prevent its release, noting that this was a case of exploitation.
However, Wendy explained, “She was the one who wanted to do that, you understand what I’m saying?” Williams said of the documentary, adding, “What do I think about being abused? Look, this system is broken, this system that I’m in. This system has falsified a lot.”
Wendy was also joined by her niece, Alex, who explained, “My aunt sounds great. I’ve seen her, in a very limited capacity, but I’ve seen her and we’re talking to her. This does not match an incapacitated person. And that’s why we say she’s in a luxury prison, because she is being held and she is being punished for whatever reason that other people are coming up with as to why she has to be kept in this position.”
Wendy became emotional during the interview as she discussed her limitations due to her guardianship.
However, towards the end of the interview, there was a sense of hope that Wendy could return to her talk show duties when she finally gets the justice she deserves. The former talk show host was asked about Diddy, and let’s just say she didn’t hold back. Social media users are currently reacting to the refreshing sound of Wendy’s voice online, as many urge others to use the hashtag #FreeWendy and sign the petition on Change.org.
