A New York judge in charge of Wendy Williams’ guardianship was once under investigation for what some reporters are calling a “concerning link” to her guardianship cases.
According to a report from, New Pittsburgh Courier, multiple sources are digging back into a January report from WABC, which highlighted a six-month investigation into Manhattan judge Lisa Sokoloff over campaign donations she snagged from attorneys, law firms, and other groups. The news outlet discovered that Sokoloff granted guardianships to folks and entities that contributed to her Supreme Court campaign between 2019 and 2022. She raked in $5,720 in donations and handed out 62 appointments just in 2022, according to official records.

Sokoloff appointed estate administration lawyer Sabrina Morrissey to look after Wendy after Wells Fargo put the freeze on all of Williams’ financial accounts back in 2022. While the investigation showed Morrissey didn’t donate to Sokoloff, the judge still awarded her several guardianship positions that same year.
Sokoloff also snatched the power of attorney away from Kevin Hunter Jr., Wendy’s son, who’s been accused of blowing through more than $300,000 of his mom’s cash. He insists he always got her go-ahead before dipping into her funds. Hunter Jr. claims that Morrissey even threatened to have him arrested and hasn’t been upfront about where his mom’s been getting treatment.
The legal drama surrounding Wendy’s estate has been heating up, especially with the cancellation of The Wendy Williams Show and her split from Kevin Hunter Sr.
Recently, Wendy’s team dropped the news that the 59-year-old TV icon was diagnosed with frontotemporal dementia and aphasia in 2023.
“As Wendy’s fans are aware, in the past she has been open with the public about her medical struggles with Graves’ Disease and Lymphedema as well as other significant challenges related to her health,” Williams’ team said in a statement obtained by Page Six.
Fast forward to today (Thursday, January 16, 2025) Wendy Williams broke down in tears during a phone call from the New York care facility where she’s currently staying, opening up about the stress she’s been facing since stepping into this guardianship situation, in a recent interview.
“I am not cognitively impaired, you know what I’m saying,” she said in an interview on iHeartRadio’s “The Breakfast Club” Thursday morning, where she was joined by her niece, Alex Finnie. In February 2024, Williams’ team announced she’d been diagnosed with both progressive aphasia and frontotemporal dementia (FTD).
“I feel like I’m in prison,” the 60-year-old admitted on the radio station. “I’m in this place where the people are in their 90s and their 80s and their 70s,” she continued. “There’s something wrong with these people here on this floor.”
