The changes brought about by the new administration are soon to be felt by many individuals within various communities across the U.S. In response, Bishop Mariann Edgar Budde has taken it upon herself to advocate for “mercy” on their behalf.
During Tuesday’s inaugural prayer service for Donald Trump, she shared a direct plea to the returning president. She said, “I ask you to have mercy upon the people in our country who are scared now,” said Bishop Budde, the leader of the Episcopal Diocese of Washington. “There are gay, lesbian and transgender children in Democratic, Republican, and independent families, some who fear for their lives.” She continued, “The vast majority of immigrants are not criminals,” Bishop Budde said. “I ask you to have mercy, Mr. President, on those in our communities whose children fear that their parents will be taken away, and that you help those who are fleeing war zones and persecution in their own lands to find compassion and welcome here.”

A clip showed Trump looking unamused by her message, and, of course, he later took to Truth Social to lash out. He said in a lengthy post, “The so-called Bishop who spoke at the National Prayer Service on Tuesday morning was a Radical Left hardline Trump hater. She brought her church into the world of politics in a very ungracious way. She was nasty in tone and not compelling or smart,” he began.
“She failed to mention the large number of illegal migrants that came into our country and killed people. Many were deposited from jails and mental institutions,” the president added. “It is a giant crime wave that is taking place in the USA. Apart from her inappropriate statements, the service was a very boring and uninspiring one.”
He went on to call on her and the church to apologize to the public. “She is not very good at her job! She and her church owe the public an apology!”
As we previously reported, during his inauguration speech, he declared that there were only two genders in America. He also said he was signing executive orders to crack down on immigrants, which he has since done.
As many are frantic about their future, many lawmakers, Democrats, and groups have pledged to fight against Trump.
