Trick Daddy has a few words to say about Nelly performing during Donald Trump’s inauguration.
As we previously reported, St. Louis rapper Nelly hit the stage at President Donald Trump’s Liberty Ball, and it didn’t take long for the criticism to roll in from fans and fellow artists alike. In response to the backlash, Nelly clarified that his performance wasn’t about getting political or swaying anyone’s views. For him, it was an honor and a chance to celebrate what he sees as “the greatest country on the planet.” He stressed that his choice was all about respect.
Now Trick Daddy is coming forward to defend Nelly for taking on the performance. While speaking on the radio, Track Daddy alleged that Nelly was paid $1.5 million to perform and compared the situation to when Kodak Black did a song with Tekashi Six9ine for a million dollars. “It’s not nothing personal when it’s your business,” Trick Daddy said. “If my worst enemy booked me to do a concert I’m going to that concert.”
Nelly also noted that he’s been under fire before for his artistic choices, like when he dropped his 2004 country crossover hit with Tim McGraw. During the event, a narrator introduced him by shining a light on his background. Born on a military base, Nelly hails from a family with a strong history of service. The introduction celebrated his journey, stating, “Only in America can you go from the streets of St. Louis to the White House.”

Rapper Soulja Boy recently took to social media to defend his choices, asserting that Democratic figures like Barack Obama and Kamala Harris never reached out to him, while Donald Trump did.
“Trump putting money in my pockets, n*gga,” he said in an Instagram video. Later on, Soulja also showed off the money he received for the performance. “Muthf*ckers is trying to say something about me performing at the Crypto Ball party, [but] did Kamala call my muthaf*kin phone? Did Obama call my muthaf*ckin phone?”
In the clip, Soulja Boy mentioned that if Donald Trump were to call him again, he’d gladly perform for him once more. He and Nelly aren’t the only rappers facing backlash for their ties to Trump; Snoop Dogg is also catching heat for his decision to take the stage at the controversial event.
