Ricky Pearsall, a 23-year-old rookie wide receiver for the San Francisco 49ers, was injured in a shooting during a robbery attempt in San Francisco’s Union Square on Saturday.
NBC Sports Bay Area reported that Pearsall’s condition improved from “serious” to “fair,” and the 49ers issued a statement confirming that he was discharged from San Francisco General Hospital on Sunday. Police told Fox40 that Pearsall was shot while someone tried to steal his Rolex watch. He was on his way to a signing event when the incident happened. There was a struggle over the gun, and both Pearsall and the suspect ended up getting shot.
Authorities have identified a 17-year-old boy as the suspect in the shooting of Pearsall. San Francisco Police Chief William Scott reported that the suspect attempted to rob Pearsall at gunpoint, leading to a struggle during which several shots were fired, injuring both Pearsall and the suspect. The police apprehended the suspect as he attempted to flee.
Scott mentioned that authorities have found the firearm and, to their knowledge, the suspect acted independently and did not specifically aim for Pearsall because he plays for the 49ers.
The former Florida Gators receiver was drafted as the 31st overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft this offseason. Last season, he recorded 65 receptions for 965 yards and scored four touchdowns while playing for the Gators.
