Gervonta Davis 'Pushing' for Lamont Roach Jr. Rematch — He Responds

Gervonta Davis is “pushing” for a rematch against Lamont Roach Jr. after their controversial draw. Roach responds, setting the record straight.

Gervonta Davis Wants a Rematch — Lamont Roach Jr. Claps Back

Gervonta Davis may have walked away from his fight with Lamont Roach Jr. without a loss on paper, but to those watching, it wasn’t the win he wanted. Despite the bout ending in a draw, Davis isn’t letting it slide.

Just two days after the fight, he took to X (formerly Twitter) to make his stance clear:

“Pushing for the rematch.”

Davis is ready to step back in the ring as soon as late May. But if he thought Roach was going to play along quietly, he was mistaken. Roach had some words for him:

“F—-k you mean pushing nigga? My contract already signed and set for the immediate rematch cuz you put that in there just in case you lost. Only reason we don’t fight is cuz u scared.”

Clearly, Roach isn’t here for the theatrics. He’s letting it be known that the rematch clause was already in place, and now it’s just up to Davis to step up.

Breaking Down the Controversial Fight

The Davis vs. Roach Jr. fight was close. Too close. The numbers don’t lie:
— Davis landed 103 total blows.
— Roach Jr. landed 112.
— Davis had a slightly better accuracy rate.
— He also connected on six more power punches (93) than Roach (87).

Despite the tight stats, the judges saw it differently. Two scored it 114-114, while one gave Davis a slight edge at 115-113. But the real controversy?

Roach wasn’t credited for what many saw as a clear knockdown in the ninth round. Davis took a knee, went to his corner, and had a trainer wipe a towel around his eye. No knockdown was recorded.

Roach and his camp weren’t feeling that decision, and plenty of fans weren’t either.

Will the Rematch Happen?

Davis is talking heavy, but if Roach is telling the truth, there’s no pushing needed. The contract is already signed, and all Davis has to do is show up.

A rematch would give both fighters a chance to settle the score—especially with the ninth-round controversy still looming.

For Davis, it’s a shot at redemption. For Roach, it’s a chance to prove he really had the upper hand all along.

Boxing fans are locked in. If this fight happens in May, expect the energy to be even more intense.
