Keri Hilson is finally speaking her truth—and this time, she’s not holding back. During a rare appearance on The Breakfast Club on Wednesday (April 9), the R&B songstress addressed the decade-long controversy surrounding her infamous Beyoncé diss in the “Turnin’ Me On (Remix).”
In the interview, Keri set the record straight, saying the words that sparked so much backlash weren’t even hers. According to Hilson, the lyric was written by someone else and pushed onto her by producer Polow Da Don—leaving her with no room to back out.
“It’s a regret—but not in the way people think,” Hilson explained. “That’s a song I actually didn’t write. Those are not my words… I immediately said, ‘I’m not saying that.’”
She continued, explaining how she was caught between industry pressure and her personal morals.
“I was told, ‘It’s not coming out if you don’t do this.’ I was super young. I felt like I had no choice.”
The moment became a defining one in Hilson’s career, and not necessarily in a good way.
“I’ve forgiven myself,” she added. “But I’ll never forget what that moment cost me.”
Ester Dean Confirms She Wrote The Beyoncé Diss Lyric
Shortly after Keri’s emotional sit-down aired, hit songwriter and artist Ester Dean stepped into the conversation with a surprising confession: She was the one who actually wrote the controversial diss aimed at Beyoncé.
Taking to social media, Dean left a short but striking comment under a clip of Hilson’s interview: “It was a hit!!”
That one-liner lit up timelines and finally gave fans some clarity. Ester Dean—known for penning hits for artists like Rihanna, Katy Perry, and Nicki Minaj—put her name on the record, putting to bed years of speculation.
While some fans were shocked, others weren’t surprised at all. Industry insiders have long whispered about other hands being involved in the writing of that verse. But now, it’s official.
