On Wednesday, April 9, President Donald Trump did what only Trump would do — he signed an executive order tackling something most presidents wouldn’t even blink twice at — shower water pressure.
In a statement that got folks talking, the White House announced, “Today, President Donald J. Trump signed an Executive Order to end the Obama-Biden war on water pressure and make America’s showers great again.”
No, for real — that’s the official press release. And they didn’t hold back either, adding, “No longer will showerheads be weak and worthless.”
This new order, officially titled “Maintaining Acceptable Water Pressure in Showerheads” is all about rolling back two energy-saving rules put in place by President Barack Obama and later reinforced by President Joe Biden.
Why Trump Says The Shower Game Needed Saving
Trump made it clear — water pressure in showers is personal to him.
“I like to take a nice shower to take care of my beautiful hair,” Trump told reporters straight from the Oval Office. “I stand under the shower for 15 minutes until it gets wet. It comes out: drip, drip, drip. It’s ridiculous.”
Obama’s original energy conservation move limited water flow to 2.5 gallons per minute per showerhead — but if your shower had multiple nozzles, the cap applied to the combined output.
Trump wasn’t feeling that.
Back in 2020 during his first term, Trump already let folks know how pressed he was about it: “You take a shower, the water doesn’t come out,” he said. “You want to wash your hands, the water doesn’t come out. So what do you do? You just stand there longer or you take a shower longer? Because my hair — I don’t know about you, but it has to be perfect. Perfect.”
Trump vs. Biden: The Showerhead Saga Continues
Trump’s administration didn’t just talk — they tried to change the whole meaning of what a “showerhead” was under U.S. law.
They argued that every nozzle should count as its own showerhead, which would’ve let newer fancy showers push out more water despite the old rules. They even had diagrams to prove their point.
But when Biden took over in 2021, he shut that down fast. Biden’s Energy Department pointed out that most everyday Americans don’t even have these luxurious multi-nozzle showers Trump was fighting for.
Still, Trump stayed on-brand — calling out what he sees as government overreach.
Trump Says It’s About Fighting For Freedom And Common Sense
Trump’s press release made his point loud and clear — he believes Obama and Biden’s water-saving policies went way too far.
He’s framing this new order as a move to “repeal burdensome Biden-era executive actions that stifled freedom” and “fight against radical green agendas that prioritize ideology over people.”
In Trump’s eyes — this wasn’t just about showers. It’s about what he sees as unnecessary government control over people’s everyday lives.
The Bigger Conversation Around Energy And The Environment
While Trump celebrates this as a win for “freedom,” environmental advocates see it differently.
Obama and Biden’s water restrictions were part of a larger push to save energy, lower utility bills, and protect the environment by reducing water waste.
Experts say limiting water flow doesn’t just conserve water — it also cuts down the energy used to heat that water, which has long-term benefits for both consumers and the planet.
