24-year-old Tay-K, born Taymor McIntyre, is best known for his 2017 single “The Race,” which appeared on Billboard’s Hot 100. The song was released the same day that the then-17-year-old rapper was arrested by U.S. Marshals in New Jersey in connection with a 2016 murder case.
He was scooped up after cutting off his ankle bracelet, fleeing house arrest, and going on the run ahead of a court hearing for his part in a botched 2016 home invasion. The rapper, who was 16 at the time of the murder, was accused of killing 21-year-old Ethan Walker in Tarrant County, Texas.

Rapper Tay-K Sentenced To 55 Years In Botched 2016 Home Invasion Resulting In Murder
In 2019, the rapper was sentenced to 55 years in prison. This despite one of his lawyers, Jeff Kearney, claiming, “It wasn’t part of the plan. The plan was robbery. Not killing.” The judge in that case also ruled that he would concurrently serve a 30-year prison sentence for the first three counts of aggravated robbery and 13 years each for the remaining two counts from the same robbery.
Now, Tay-K faces an additional 5 to 99 years in prison after being found guilty of shooting and killing a photographer while fleeing authorities after the initial murder. In 2017, authorities in Bexar County, Texas issued an arrest warrant for Tay-K for a second murder. The document alleged that the rapper was part of a group who picked up 23-year-old photographer Mark Anthony Saldívar in San Antonio for a photoshoot that was supposed to happen at a nearby mall.
However, prosecutors alleged that while in the car, Saldívar was robbed at gunpoint for his camera equipment. They also alleged that he was fatally shot after an altercation with Tay-K, according to the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. Saldívar was found dead in the parking lot of a Chick-fil-A restaurant on April 23, 2017.
Rapper Tay-K Convicted Of Murder For Second Time, Facing 5-99 Years In Addition To Current 55-Year Sentence
On Monday (April 14), after eight hours of deliberations, a jury found Tay-K guilty of murder. However, they did not convict him of capital murder, which would have carried a mandatory life sentence, without parole. Furthermore, the rapper still faces life in prison, but with the possibility of parole.
It’s reported that none of the witnesses in the case could identify Tay-K as the shooter in the case. This likely led to the lesser murder charge conviction. Following this afternoon’s conviction, the jury began the punishment phase of the trial ahead of sentencing.
