An active shooter situation unfolded this Thursday at Florida State University, leaving multiple people hospitalized and a community shaken.

FSU officials quickly issued a shelter-in-place alert after the shooting broke out near the student union, warning students and staff to protect themselves until police could secure the scene.

“An active shooter has been reported in the area of Student Union,” the university said in a post on X. “Police are on scene or on the way. Continue to seek shelter and await further instructions. Lock and stay away from all doors and windows and be prepared to take additional protective measures.”

The fact that students had to be told to stay away from doors and windows… that’s a whole different kind of reality these days. These young folks came for an education and left with trauma.
