Kanye West is making headlines again—but this time, it isn’t about him. The outspoken rapper and fashion mogul took to social media to stand beside longtime rival Drake in his explosive legal showdown with Universal Music Group (UMG).
In a passionate video posted on X (formerly Twitter) Thursday, Ye made it clear where he stands:
“Yo, I’m so happy right now, you don’t understand,” he began.
“With this UMG, Drake, Kendrick situation, Super Bowl, Grammys — this shit was driving me and you know where it should be driving me, but this is the biggest victory in music history right here.”
This show of unity comes after Drake officially filed an amended complaint accusing UMG of defamation and antitrust violations—a move that could shake the music industry to its core.
What’s shocking is not just Kanye’s alliance, but the way he used the moment to reflect on the bigger picture—one of liberation, unity, and artist empowerment.
For years, Kanye and Drake have gone back and forth—diss tracks, interviews, social jabs. But Ye said all that’s in the past now.
“I’m never finna call Drake out of his name. I’m team Drake, 100%,” he said with conviction.
“And team Kendrick and Team all of us! Kendrick needs to be going at UMG at this point.”
It’s rare to hear Ye extend an olive branch, let alone to two of his biggest rap peers. But in this moment, he’s pushing something bigger—solidarity in the face of what he calls the “slave masters.”
He also shouted out Lucian Grainge, the CEO of UMG, while referencing his remix of “Like That.”
“This is what I said in my version of ‘Like That,’” Ye explained.
“I said, ‘Lucian, your lifetime deal.’ Like, let’s stop aiming all this at each other. Bro, you have no idea.”
Ye didn’t stop there. He doubled down by calling Drake’s legal move a revolutionary one for all artists navigating label politics and ownership issues.
“Everything is worth everything for a moment like this, where we stop going at each other and we go at the slave masters,” he said powerfully.
Then came the receipts. Kanye posted a link to Drake’s updated court filing—over 100 pages long—and added his own caption:
“I have to show Drake love for going at the machine. This is a very important moment in music history. For some reason I felt like I was on Drake’s side concerning this situation. Now here’s over 100 pages to show why.”
