As the manhunt entered its fifth day after 10 inmates escaped a New Orleans jail, a fifth escaped inmate has been captured, with five more still on the run, and considered “armed and dangerous.”
On Tuesday (May 20), Louisiana State Police (LSP) captured 19-year-old Corey Boyd. He was taken into custody in the Iberville neighborhood. He is one of ten inmates who broke out of the Orleans Parish Justice Center early Friday morning. While releasing a statement online, LSP said:
“Boyd was originally incarcerated at the Orleans Justice Center for Second Degree Murder, Attempted Second Degree Murder, Aggravated Battery, and Threatening a Public Official.”

The facility is also known as Angola. Following their jail break, the escapees are now being housed in a secured area of the state’s maximum-security prison.
How The Inmates Escaped The New Orleans Parish Justice Center
According to the Orleans Parish Sheriff’s Office, the inmates busted out around 12:23 a.m. on Friday (May 16). Authorities claim the inmates used defective cell locks and snuck out through a wall behind a toilet. The inmates were seen on surveillance footage exiting through a supply dock. From there, they scaled a perimeter wall and ran across an interstate.
As we previously shared, a prison maintenance worker — who has been accused of helping the ten inmates escape — was arrested Tuesday. The great escape has triggered sweeping audits and mounting fear among victims and prosecutors, plus intense scrutiny of jail leadership.
