A woman ordered a hit on her preteen daughter after being sick of their arguments. According to Daily Mail, Russian authorities have detained a 46-year-old woman named Svetlana who allegedly offered a male acquaintance $1,254.64 USD to drown her 12-year-old daughter in a local river. The alleged incident took place in the Chelyabinsk region, where the mother reportedly grew frustrated with the child’s “bad behavior” and decided to have her killed.
But it was the daughter herself—brave and alert—who overheard the plot and was able to escape the attempted murder with the help of the would-be hitman.
Mother Allegedly Paid to Have Daughter Drowned in River After “Bad Behavior”
Authorities say that Svetlana discussed the plot with 36-year-old Andrey, a male acquaintance, who she asked to drown her daughter in the Bolshaya Karanganka River. She offered him 99,785.3 roubles, roughly $1,254 USD, to complete the job.
Unbeknownst to Svetlana, her daughter was listening from behind a door and heard the entire exchange. When Andrey later attempted to lure her outside as planned, the girl nervously shared her fears, and surprisingly, he confessed the plan and promised to protect her.
Instead of carrying out the act, Andrey hid the girl in his home and contacted police. He told them Svetlana wanted her daughter dead due to “constant arguments” and labeled her behavior as a reason for the planned killing.
Police responded swiftly. Svetlana, a mother of four, was detained and reportedly “unable to explain her actions” when questioned.
Children Removed from Home After Mother’s Attempted Murder Plot
As the investigation unfolds, Russian child welfare officials have placed the 12-year-old girl, along with her 17-year-old and 6-year-old siblings, into foster care. Authorities have yet to confirm the status of the fourth child.
The disturbing case has sparked national and international outrage, with many questioning how a mother could plot to end her child’s life so casually—and so cheaply.
