Jermaine Donald And Leo Tate Become 7th And 8th Escaped Inmates Captured In New Orleans Jailbreak, Two More Remain On The Run, Armed & Dangerous


Jermaine Donald, 42, and Leo Tate, 31, have become the seventh and eighth escaped inmates captured in the viral New Orleans jailbreak. Two more escapees remain on the run, still considered armed and dangerous.

As we previously shared on May 16, ten inmates busted out of the New Orleans Parish Justice Center around 12:23 a.m. According to the Orleans Parish Sheriff’s Office, the inmates used defective cell locks and snuck out through a wall behind a toilet. The inmates were seen on surveillance footage exiting through a supply dock. From there, they scaled a perimeter wall and ran across an interstate.

As we previously reported, a prison maintenance worker — who has been accused of helping the ten inmates escape — was arrested Tuesday. The great escape has triggered sweeping audits and mounting fear among victims and prosecutors, plus intense scrutiny of jail leadership.

Jermaine Donald And Leo Tate Joins 6 Other Escapees Captured In New Orleans Jail Break

Within the first five days of the manhunt, authorities captured five inmates. On the tenth day (Monday, May 16), three more escapees were captured. Jermaine Donald, Leo Tate, and Lenton Vanburen, 26.

  2. Robert Moody, 21 – Captured May 16 in Mid-City after a Crime Stoppers tip
  3. Dkenan Dennis, 24 – Apprehended later May 16 near Chef Menteur Hwy and Dale Street
  4. Gary C. Price, 21 – Taken into custody May 19 in New Orleans East
  5. Corey Boyd, 19 – Taken into custody May 20 in New Orleans
  6. Lenton Vanburen, 26 – Arrested May 26, found in Baton Rouge,
  7. Jermaine Donald, 42 – Captured May 26 in Walker County, Texas after high-speed police chase
  8. Leo Tate, 31 – Captured May 26 in Walker County, Texas after high-speed police chase

Jermaine Donald And Leo Tate Led Police In Texas On Brief Car Chase Before Arrest

As we shared earlier, the Louisiana State Police (LSP) reported that a sixth inmate, Lenton Vanburen, was captured in Baton Rouge. Shortly after, LSP updated that Jermaine Donald and Leo Tate made numbers 7 and 8.

The latter two were arrested in Walker County, Texas, arrested by the Texas Department of Public Safety. Per the Huntsville Police Department, the two led officers on a high-speed chase that ended around 6:30 p.m. near U.S. 190 and Geneva.

Per Deputy Cameron Welch with the US Marshals Office, authorities were working all day long on leads and tips that Tate and Donald were in the area, driving in a small SUV. When DPS noticed their vehicle, they tried to initiate a traffic stop. That’s when a chase ensued. The suspects eventually lost control, crashed, and were arrested.

Two more escapees (Antoine Massey, 32, and Derrick Groves, 27) remain on the run.
