As we previously shared, in June 2022, Todd and Julie Chrisley were hit with federal charges. The pair pleaded not guilty to the charges. They were accused of using fake documents to defraud Atlanta banks out of more than $30 million in loans. Additionally, they were accused of hiding millions in income from the IRS. They reportedly never reported their money made from their reality TV show and other ventures.
In June 2022, Todd and Julie Chrisley were convicted on al counts in their fraud and tax evasion case. According to a court document obtained by NBC News, the ‘Chrisley Knows Best‘ stars were federally indicted in August 2019 on 12 counts. Per Insider, who cited court documents, federal prosecutors alleged Todd, his wife Julie, and their accountant, Peter Tarantino, submitted fake bank documents and lied about their wealth when applying for loans from 2007 to 2012.
The three were each charged with five counts of bank fraud, one count of conspiracy to commit bank fraud, one count of conspiracy to defraud the United States, and one count of tax fraud. Additionally, Julie was charged with one count of obstruction of justice and one count of wire fraud. The accountant was also hit with two counts of willfully filing false tax returns.
Todd Chrisley Blamed Tax Evasion And Fraud Drama On Former ‘Disgruntled’ Employee
Following the indictment, Todd shared a message on Instagram denying any wrongdoing. Accompanying a picture of his family, he wrote,
“We have nothing to hide and have done nothing to be ashamed of. Not only do we know we’ve done nothing wrong, but we’ve got a ton of hard evidence and a bunch of corroborating witnesses that proves it.”
Todd blamed the legal drama on a former employee who was fired in 2012. The Chrisleys claimed to learn that the employee was “stealing from [them] big time.” He said the staffer retaliated against the family by sending “phony documents” to the U.S. Attorney’s Office. He also alleged the employee told federal prosecutors that “[the Chrisleys] had committed all kinds of financial crimes.”
After being found guilty in the court of law, Todd was initially sentenced to 12 years in prison. Meanwhile, Julie was sentenced to 7 years behind the wall. The couple’s accountant was sentenced to three years in prison. However, in September 2023, Todd and Julie’s sentences were shortened. Julie was now scheduled to be released a year and three months earlier. Todd was expected to get out two years earlier than his scheduled 2035 release.

President Donald Trump Pardons Todd And Julie Chrisley’s Fraud And Tax Evasion Convictions, Daughter Savannah Praises Trump
On Tuesday (May 27), President Donald Trump fully and unconditionally pardoned Todd Chrisley and Julie Chrisley in their fraud and tax evasion case. The move arrives after months of speculation. In February, the couple’s attorney, Jay Surgent, told NBC News that Trump was “seriously” considering helping them out. In a phone interview, Surgent said:
“They believe that the president will seriously consider pardoning both Julie and Todd Chrisley as a result of the unfair treatment they received in the criminal justice system.”
Upon making good on his word, Trump shared the news with the couple’s children, including daughter Savannah Chrisley. During a phone call from the Oval Office, Trump said:
“It’s a terrible thing but it’s a great thing, because your parents are going to be free and clean. I hope we can do it by tomorrow.”
After the call, Savannah posted a nearly four-minute video on Instagram, sharing her reaction. She captioned the post, “TODD AND JULIE CHRISLEY PARDONED. In her video, she said:
“We are freaking out over here. I have shed so many tears. The president called me personally as I was walking into Sam’s Club. He notified me that he was signing pardon paperwork for both of my parents. So, both my parents are coming home, tonight or tomorrow. I still don’t believe it’s real. I’m freaking out. The fact that the president called me… I will forever be grateful for President Trump, his administration, and everyone along the way. I am eternally grateful. We are getting some clothes together for mom and dad and getting their rooms together. Thanks for loving and supporting us. We are so grateful.”
