Oh wow! Even controversial Republican congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene appears to express regret after voting for the “Big, Beautiful Bill,” claiming she “did not know about” it in full context.
It appears MTG is no longer a big fan of the “One Big, Beautiful Bill,” despite being someone who voted for it! Last month, the bill passed through Congress with a 315 to 214 vote. Two Republicans voted no. They were Kentucky’s Thomas Massie and Ohio’s Warren Davidson.
Spanning its 1,000-plus pages, the bill looks to offer greater benefits to the richest people in America. It also seeks to provide big cuts on Medicaid and SNAP and could also present limitations on courts’ abilities to enforce contempt. The bill is estimated to add $3.8 trillion to the federal deficit. Since passing Congress, the bill is now awaiting its future in the Senate.
Marjorie Taylor Greene Admits She Didn’t Fully Read ‘Big, Beautiful Bill’ Before Voting ‘Yes’
In the meantime, the bill has been met with backlash from former DOGE (Department of Government Efficiency) head, Elon Musk, and now Georgia’s GOP Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene. While taking to X on Tuesday (June 3), MTG shared a couple of pages from the bill and wrote:
“Full transparency, I did not know about this section on pages 278-279 of the OBBB that strips states’ of the right to make laws or regulate AI for 10 years. I am adamantly OPPOSED to this and it is a violation of state rights and I would have voted NO if I had known this was in there.
We have no idea what AI will be capable of in the next 10 years and giving it free rein and tying states hands is potentially dangerous. This needs to be stripped out in the Senate. When the OBBB comes back to the House for approval after Senate changes, I will not vote for it with this in it. We should be reducing federal power and preserving state power. Not the other way around. Especially with rapidly developing AI that even the experts warn they have no idea what it may be capable of.”
As MTG mentioned, part of the bill plainly reads, “No State or political subdivision thereof may enforce, during the 10-year period beginning on the date of the enactment of this Act, any law or regulation of that State or a political subdivision thereof limiting, restricting, or otherwise regulating artificial intelligence models, artificial intelligence systems, or automated decision systems entered into interstate commerce.”
Reacting to Marjorie Taylor Green’s admission about not fully reading “The Big, Beautiful Bill,” Democrat Representative Eric Swalwell tweeted, “You have one job. To. Read. The. F***ing. Bill.”
In another tweet, MTG continued to write:
“I will vote for EVERY SINGLE DOGE CUT!!! If Republicans don’t have the political will to vote for the first DOGE recision bill, cutting only $9 billion, then what can Republicans actually accomplish? The Democrats are the party of BIG GOVERNMENT. Republicans must break the cycle, not continue it!!”
Marjorie Taylor Greene Agrees With Elon Musk’s Criticism Of ‘Big, Beautiful Bill’
When directly asked about Elon Musk’s criticism of the “Big, Beautiful Bill,” Marjorie Taylor Greene said:
“Well, you know, I have to agree with him on one hand. I always love it when Americans are angry at the federal government and express it. I think that should’ve been happening for years now. We’re in $36 trillion dollars in debt for a reason. What the [Joe] Biden administration did for the past four years is they spent trillions and trillions of dollars invading our border, the Green New Energy scam, and basically wrecking the economy and driving inflation so high that young people can’t afford to buy houses and are losing hope in the American Dream.
Unfortunately, in the ‘One Big, Beautiful Bill,’ we had to spend some money to right the ship and pass President Trump’s campaign promises, which is border security—I’ll write those checks all day long to Tom Homan. Also, supporting America First Energy. I think that’s important to spend money on.
And then, of course, making the President’s Tax Cuts and Jobs Act permanent. That is absolutely worth supporting and sending money on because if it expires, we raise taxes by 60 percent on all Americans. And so, do I like the price tag of the bill? No. But, I want to get off of the Biden and Democrats CR that this government is currently funding on and most importunely, I wanna vote on DOGE cuts and I want to do that every single week. So, I’m really thankful to Elon for starting that program.”
