Chloe Bailey makes it clear that she wasn’t trying to shoot her shot at Kendrick Lamar after showed love to his new album.
As we previously reported, the “Treat Me” singer was hyped about Lamar’s surprise sixth studio album, GNX, which just dropped on November 22. She opened up to her fans, saying she was “convinced” at one point that she and the Compton rapper were meant to be together.
“I’ve had it on repeat since it came out,” Chlöe said enthusiastically, reflecting on the albums impact on the culture.
The 12-track album is packed with collabs from artists like SZA, Roddy Ricch, AzChike, and more from the West Coast scene. She’s vibin’ with tracks like the deep-cut “Man in the Garden,” the smooth “Luther” that gives a nod to Luther Vandross, and the eerie “TV Off.”
Chlöe emphasized that her admiration for Lamar isn’t a recent development. “About eight years ago, I went through a whole Kendrick phase,” she shared. “I’ve had phases, right? I had a Frank Ocean phase, an FKA twigs phase, a Tune-Yards phase—and a Kendrick Lamar phase. During that time, I was convinced I was going to end up with him.”
She added, “I’ve been a die-hard Kendrick fan from day one. I’m glad more people are discovering his brilliance, but I’ve been here all along.”
Lamar is still all in with his fiancée, Whitney Alford, and they’ve got two little ones together, Uzi and Enoch.
After Chole’s recent video, fans on the internet accused her of trying to shoot her shot at the West Coast rapper. However, the singer addressed the allegations and shut down the rumors real quick by simply saying she would never do that.
