The U.S. Census Bureau recently reported that the world population is expected to reach 8.09 billion by New Year’s Day, following an increase of over 71 million people in 2024.

According to the Associated Press, there are approximately 4.2 births and 2.0 deaths worldwide every second. In 2024, the U.S. population increased by 2.6 million, reaching 341 million by January 1. By January 2025, it is projected that a baby will be born every nine seconds while one person will die every 9.4 seconds.
Additionally, international migration is expected to add one new resident every 23.2 seconds. Together, these factors will result in a net population increase of one person every 21.2 seconds. The United States has added nearly 9.7 million people since the early 2020s but still has a slow growth rate in comparison to the 7.4% growth of the 2020s.
