A man from London was awarded $6,250 in compensation following a shaving mishap that caused him significant facial lacerations. In the lawsuit he submitted, he claimed that he bought a $3 store-brand razor from a Sainsbury’s store and found that one of the blades was missing.
Nick Silverthorn, 48, bought the item in December 2023 and reported that the razor cut his skin, causing him to bleed for 20 minutes, according to the New York Post. “Due to the wounds being on my face, it took me nearly half an hour dabbing with tissues before the blood finally stopped pumping out of the cuts,” he recalled. Silverthorn noticed the blade had come loose and kept the razor, receipt, and packaging as proof. The injuries took several weeks to heal and left him with scars, prompting him to contact product liability experts at Express Solicitors. The firm reached out to Sainsbury’s, which forwarded the case to the razor’s manufacturer, Wilkinson Sword.
After an investigation, Wilkinson Sword offered an out-of-court settlement of $6,250, though they reportedly did not admit liability. Silverthorn said he didn’t file the suit for money but to protect others from a similar experience. “. I took action to protect others as they may not be as lucky as me,” he explained.

One of the liability experts praised Silverthorn for filing the lawsuit and keeping the evidence to prevent further incidents like his from reoccurring.
“Not many people who cut themselves shaving would think to sue one of the World’s biggest razor companies.”
