Michelle Obama Reportedly Won’t Be At Donald Trump’s Inauguration Because ‘She’s Never Been Fake And Phony’ • Hollywood Unlocked

Michelle Obama won’t be pulling up to Donald Trump’s inauguration because “she’s no phony,” according to a source who exclusively spoke to @pagesix.

While Barack seems to be keeping it cordial with the incoming President, Michelle’s not playing that game. As we previously reported, Barack Obama and Trump were seen getting along at Jimmy Carter’s funeral, but Michelle was MIA, apparently enjoying a long getaway in Hawaii. The Office of Barack and Michelle Obama dropped a statement to the Associated Press on Tuesday, saying that Michelle “won’t be attending the upcoming inauguration.”

The statement didn’t share an explanation for Michelle not wanting to be there, but in a new report the news outlet reached out to someone in the Obama’s circle to get more details. “She’s never been fake and she’s never been phony. She’s always been very deliberate about where and how she shows up,” the source reportedly said.

“She showed up reluctantly for the election. They were united, but she doesn’t have to unify around [Trump]. She doesn’t have to say anything. Her absence speaks volumes,” they added.

Michelle made her stance on a Trump presidency crystal clear when she spoke at the Democratic National Convention last August.

“For years, Donald Trump did everything in his power to try to make people fear us. See, his limited narrow view of the world made him feel threatened by the existence of two hard working, highly successful people who happen to be black,” she said.

Trump was a major player in the “birther movement,” pushing the conspiracy theory that the previous president wasn’t born in the U.S. for years before his 2016 campaign.

He eventually copped to being wrong, but he never actually said sorry. While Michelle started off on a positive note, even showing up at Trump’s inauguration in 2017.

But her critiques of Trump got way stronger during the last election as she hit the campaign trail for Vice President Kamala Harris.

“Why would we normalize that type of backwards leadership? Doing so only demeans and cheapens our politics,” Michelle said at the DNC. “Most of us will never be afforded the grace of failing forward. We will never benefit from the affirmative action of generational wealth. If we bankrupt a business or choke in a crisis, we don’t get a second, third or fourth chance,” she added.
