Michael Reese and Leah Ferrarini claimed that the “watermelon-sized” block of ice crashed into their Inglewood home shortly after 8 p.m. last January. According to the New York Post, their lawsuit states that the frozen debris allegedly landed directly above their bed. The couple asserts that the block of ice came from a JetBlue Airbus A321 traveling from Los Angeles to New York, accusing the airline of negligence for operating a plane with an unresolved water issue. In the complaint, Reese and Ferrarini also claimed that the airline trespassed on their property.

The couple is seeking $300,000 for emotional distress, $300,00 for pain and suffering, $40,000 for medical expenses, and $360,000 for property damage. Reese and Ferraini say they are now suffering from insomnia and no longer feel safe in their home. Additionally, they are planning to move from their “dream home” due to the lasting impacts of the incident.

JetBlue released a statement related to the suit, denying any responsibility for the incident and saying their operations comply with industry standards and regulations. JetBlue is also seeking attorneys’ fees to cover the costs of the lawsuit.

A similar incident occurred from the same plane in August 2023 when a block of ice fell onto a Massachusetts home.
