Oop! Elon Musk is laughing off reports claiming that President Donald Trump‘s “ice maiden” White House Chief of Staff Susie Wiles has denied him an office in the White House’s West Wing and has limited his direct access to Trump.

On Friday (January 24), political analyst Dominic Michael Tripi wrote on X (formerly Twitter), “Susie Wiles has reportedly limited Elon Musk’s direct access to the President.” On Monday (January 27), Musk, who owns X, laughed off the reports with multiple crying-laughing emojis.
Now, Elon Musk, who is the richest man in the world, was one of the central figures in Donald Trump’s successful 2024 presidential campaign. Musk was also rewarded by being named the head of Trump’s newly-created Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) agency, which seeks to reduce trillions in annual federal spending in order to address the nation’s $36.2 trillion debt.

Before Elon Musk’s emoji-filled response, Daily Mail reported in a January 25 report that 78-year-old Donald Trump’s “ice maiden” Chief of Staff Susie Wiles, 67, planned to freeze Musk, 53, out of the West Wing and limit his direct access to the president. The publication reported that Wiles denied the billionaire, touted as “the real Vice President” or “Co-President,” a permanent office near the president’s Oval Office.
Reportedly, Musk pushed for a room down the hall from the Oval Office, but instead, his DOGE team will be headquartered in the Eisenhower building, across the road from the White House. It’s also reported that Musk must report to Wiles, further showing a sign of her control over Trump and the White House.
The report arrived weeks after Wiles wasted no time in laying down the law around her job of assisting the president. During a January 6 Axios interview, Wiles said there would be no tolerance for “drama” or self-centered behavior under her watch.
She said, “I don’t welcome people who want to work solo or be a star. My team and I will not tolerate backbiting, second-guessing inappropriately, or drama. These are counterproductive to the mission. To my core, I believe in teamwork. Anyone who cannot be counted on to be collaborative, and focused on our shared goals, isn’t working in the West Wing.”
Speculation grew around Donald Trump’s Chief of Staff Susie Wiles’ comments being a bit geared towards Elon Musk, who, during and after the election win, has become a political star and has been capturing more headlines than Trump’s Vice President pick, Ohio Senator J.D. Vance, 40. Social media users and critics have been jokingly, with some seriousness, dubbed Musk Trump’s “real Vice President” or “Co-President.”
