According to a recent Wall Street Journal report, Elon Musk offered Ashley St. Clair $15 million upfront, plus $100,000 a month in support, in exchange for her silence about their baby boy. A source close to St. Clair also told PEOPLE that similar hush agreements had been worked out with other women who have children by the Tesla mogul.
The alleged deal between the 53-year-old tech billionaire and the 26-year-old political influencer paints a bigger picture of Musk’s long-standing attempts to keep certain parts of his personal life private. This isn’t the first time Musk has been called out for working behind the scenes to control the narrative when it comes to his growing family.
A rep for Musk did not immediately respond to PEOPLE’s request for comment.
Baby Romulus: Paternity Confirmed, Name Revealed
In that same report, the child’s name was revealed to be Romulus, a name previously only referred to as R.S.C.. The Wall Street Journal also confirmed results from a Labcorp paternity test showing a 99.9999% probability that Musk is the child’s biological father.
“A paternity test showed there is an almost 100% probability of paternity,” a rep for St. Clair confirmed to PEOPLE, also stating the child’s full name for the first time.
St. Clair made her public announcement on X (formerly Twitter) back in February 2025, writing:
“Five months ago, I welcomed a new baby into the world. Elon Musk is the father. I have not previously disclosed this to protect our child’s privacy and safety, but in recent days it has become clear that tabloid media intends to do so, regardless of the harm it will cause.”
“I intend to allow our child to grow in a normal and safe environment. For that reason, I ask that the media honor our child’s privacy, and refrain from invasive reporting.”
Why Ashley St. Clair Is Speaking Out Now
On March 29, St. Clair appeared on camera with the Daily Mail, handing over the keys to her Tesla Model S. She explained that she had to sell her car because of a “60 percent cut that Elon made to our son’s child support.”
The very next day, Musk took to X to deny the allegations. Responding to a post from conservative commentator Laura Loomer, Musk claimed he had not retaliated against St. Clair financially. In fact, he said he wasn’t even 100% sure the child was his, yet still provided support:
“I don’t know if the child is mine or not, but am not against finding out. No court order is needed. Despite not knowing for sure, I have given Ashley $2.5M and am sending her $500k/year.”
That statement only added more heat to the fire, as critics questioned why Musk was publicly unsure about paternity while official documents showed a 99.9999% match.
Inside Musk’s Complicated Legacy as a Father
This revelation marks yet another layer in Elon Musk’s complex history with fatherhood. With 14 known children and multiple mothers, Musk’s personal life has often grabbed just as many headlines as his work with Tesla, SpaceX, and X.
Ashley St. Clair is the latest woman to make her story public — and while some have supported Musk’s role as a provider, others feel his behavior paints a pattern of manipulation behind the scenes.
As the drama continues to unfold, St. Clair has made it clear that her only focus is raising their son in peace. But between paternity test receipts, cash offers, and child support drama playing out on the timeline, it’s unlikely the internet will forget this one anytime soon.
