Teen Arrested After Detonating An Explosive In Girl's Home After She Rejected Him

A 17-year-old is now in custody after authorities say he broke into a Michigan home and detonated an explosive after a girl rejected his romantic advances. The shocking incident occurred around 3 a.m. on April 10 in Mount Clemens, sending an entire family fleeing for their lives. Thankfully, no one was injured, but the home — a rental — was left badly damaged by the resulting fire.

According to WXYZ Detroit, the teen had been talking to a girl in the home. When she refused his request for a date, he allegedly broke into the house later that night and set off an explosive.

Explosion Forces Family To Flee With Babies Through Backyard Fence

Delvon Lee, one of the residents inside the house at the time of the incident, spoke out about the terrifying moment his family was jolted awake.

“It sounded literally like someone threw an M-80 in there. Just — it blew up. When I went downstairs, first it was like a little fire. It wasn’t nothing big. But it spread fast.”

Lee, along with his 9-month-old son, his son’s mother, grandmother, cousin, and another 9-month-old baby, all managed to escape by climbing over a backyard fence.

Emergency responders checked everyone out at the hospital. Fortunately, no injuries were reported, and both infants were found to be in good health.

Teen Suspect Arrested Five Days After Mount Clemens House Explosion

Just five days after the fire, law enforcement tracked down and arrested the teen. Authorities confirmed that he is being held on multiple charges related to arson and property destruction.

According to Lee, the teen had met his cousin only days earlier.

“This is a kid ruining his life over a girl he met five days ago,”

The house — which the family rented — is now uninhabitable. Everything inside was destroyed in the fire, and the family has since launched a GoFundMe campaign to help rebuild their lives.

Prosecutors are reportedly considering charging the teen as an adult and he will appear back in court on April 17.
