As several top prospects anxiously waited to hear their names called during the 2025 NFL Draft, Shedeur Sanders found himself caught up in a wild and unexpected moment—getting prank calls while waiting for his big opportunity.
One of those calls came from Jax Ulbrich, and after major backlash and an NFL investigation getting underway, Jax took to social media to apologize.
“On Friday night I made a tremendous mistake,” Jax wrote. “Shedeur, what I did was completely inexcusable, embarrassing, and shameful. I’m so sorry I took away from your moment; it was selfish and childish. I could never imagine getting ready to celebrate one of the greatest moments of your life, and I made a terrible mistake and messed with that moment. Thank you for accepting my call earlier today; I hope you can find it in your heart to forgive me.”
The Falcons confirmed Jax was behind the prank call, explaining that he had gotten Sanders’ number “off an open iPad while visiting his parents’ home and wrote the number down to later conduct a prank call.”
In their statement, the team made it clear that Jeff Ulbrich had no knowledge of what went down beforehand and only learned about it after the fact.

Even though Jax Ulbrich took full responsibility for the prank, the Falcons were quick to make sure everybody knew that Jeff Ulbrich wasn’t involved.
In their official statement, the Falcons stressed that Jeff had absolutely no prior knowledge about the prank call. They pointed out that Jeff was just as shocked as everybody else when the story started gaining traction online.
The team’s statement emphasized how important professionalism and respect are to their organization, especially during a life-changing event like the NFL Draft. They also added that they had spoken directly with Shedeur Sanders and his team to express their regret over what happened.

Shedeur Sanders showed nothing but grace through the situation. Despite being on the receiving end of an immature joke during what was supposed to be one of the best nights of his life, Sanders reportedly accepted Jax’s personal apology call earlier that day.
