Redford Police Confirm Arrest In Skilla Baby Shooting Investigation
Redford Township Police have confirmed that a suspect has officially been arrested in connection with the shooting of Detroit rapper Skilla Baby. The case, which has sparked major concern from fans and the hip-hop community alike, is finally seeing movement after weeks of speculation and silence from authorities.
According to the Redford Township Police Department, they were able to locate and identify a suspect vehicle with the help of the Detroit Police Department (DPD), Western Wayne Special Operations Team, and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF).
“The registered owner of the vehicle was taken into custody by DPD road patrol on 6/4/25. A Search Warrant was subsequently executed at his residence in Detroit where a firearm was recovered,” police said in a public statement.
The suspect, whose name has not been released at this time, is being charged with felony weapons offenses. The charges are currently under review by the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office.
What Happened To Skilla Baby? Details Of The May 22 Shooting
As we previously reported, the shooting took place around 7 p.m. on May 22 near Eight Mile Road and Beech Daly Road. Multiple shots were fired toward a moving SUV, and Skilla Baby was inside the vehicle when gunfire erupted.
Skilla suffered injuries from the gunfire before crashing his vehicle, authorities shared.
The news shook Detroit and made headlines across hip-hop media. Fans flooded social media with prayers, urging the rapper to recover swiftly.
Despite being shot just 48 hours prior, Skilla Baby reminded everybody why he’s cut from a different cloth. On May 24, fellow Detroit rapper 42 Dugg brought him out on stage during a Memorial Day Weekend concert at the Masonic Temple. The crowd erupted as the two shared an emotional moment that felt bigger than music—it was about resilience, survival, and Detroit pride.

Fans React To The Arrest: ‘Let That Man Heal In Peace’
Following the arrest announcement, fans have taken to social media with mixed emotions—relief that progress has been made, and concern for Skilla Baby’s health and safety moving forward.
“Skilla don’t deserve none of that. Just let that man live and make his music,” one fan wrote on Instagram. Another commented, “This generation of rap beef gotta chill. Everything don’t need to end with bullets.”
While folks are hyped that police made a move, many are hoping the rapper takes his time to heal—physically, mentally, and spiritually.
Supporters also emphasized the need for better security and community protection for local artists in Detroit who’ve been targets of violence in recent years. Skilla Baby is one of many rising stars who’ve faced real-life danger amid their rise to fame.
The Ongoing Investigation Into The Skilla Baby Shooting
As of now, Redford Police have yet to release the name or mugshot of the suspect. Investigators are likely working closely with prosecutors to build a solid case, especially with a recovered firearm involved. That weapon could link the suspect directly to the shooting through ballistics testing, and possibly even fingerprint or DNA evidence.
Meanwhile, sources close to Skilla Baby say he’s still recovering but in good spirits. He’s reportedly staying low and focused on healing. It’s unclear if the rapper will press additional charges or pursue civil action, but with felony weapons charges on the table, this case is already serious.
Detroit authorities are expected to share more details soon, and fans are watching closely.
