Bebe Rexha is dragging Azealia Banks and urging her to seek therapy after the Harlem singer/rapper appeared to body shame her 2025 Met Gala look, amid her PCOS battle.
On Monday (May 5), all of the stars showed up and showed out at the 2025 Met Gala in New York City. For fashion’s biggest night, Bebe Rexha hit the Met carpet in a plunging black tuxedo-inspired gown by Christian Siriano. Commenting on her look, Banks tweeted:
“Sis gives me – hormonal birth control implant or something. It’s giving Implanon/Nuvaring she needs removed or Depo shot that needs to stop happening (I’m not even tryna play her).”
Bebe Rexha caught Azealia Banks’ tweet a few hours later. In a since-deleted tweet, she initially admitted that she suffered a pregnancy loss due to her bout with PCOS (polycystic ovary syndrome), a common type of hormone imbalance in biological women. Rexha, who was diagnosed in 2022, wrote:
“I’m so tired of people commenting on my weight. I have PCOS and struggle with infertility. I got pregnant, and it didn’t work out and I’ve been crying that pain in silence. I never owed anyone that truth, but maybe now you’ll think twice before commenting on anyone’s body.”
In a second tweet, Rexha replied directly to Banks’ post and said:
“And you might wanna jump on some type of therapy, sis, Lexapro worked great for me. Something that helps with the deep-rooted sadness and chaos you keep projecting. Healing looks good on everyone. Try it.”

Azealia Banks Goes Off On Bebe Rexha After Being Told To Seek Therapy
Banks replied to Rexha’s clap back and fired off:
“B*tch that’s why your bustin’ out the bando!!!!! Lexapro LITERALLY made me fat!!! I’m not kidding. And it made depression even worse. (I took SSRIs (Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitors) for years and quit in 2019. First Citalopram (Celexa), then Escitalopram, and then I stopped and switched to an Ashwagandha + Maca + Turmeric combo). You should really get off Lexapro Imao. Weight gain is a TRADEMARK side effect of Lexapro. And girl I am living my best life in Sweden being an Ortagubben, gworlll…. city-hopping around Europe working on sh*t and giving CARROT JUICE niece. But nah for real get off that Lexapro and SSRIs in general that’s sooo 1999.”
In additional tweets, Banks added, “None of that SSRI bullsh*t feels better than skinny feels. Honesty and truly. Bisous. Imagine thinking your SSRI prescription is a flex…. Jesus Christ where do they make these girls today ???”
When an X user asked if she was going to apologize to Bebe Rexha, Azealia Banks tweeted:
“Lol, NO! Girl get off that Lexapro bullsh*t. If SSRIs really worked they wouldn’t be making new formulas every year. Plus, society just shames women into ‘treatment for mental health,’ especially in this industry so we can be easier to take advantage of. I love the Chaotic Cooch! SHE JUST REMINDED ME OF CHAOS & GLORY WITH LUCIANA @owwwls can u resend me that one????”
Banks continued to rant and respond to Rexha again. She ultimately encouraged Rexha to listen to her good-intended advice and even proposed to be her “support sister.”
Bebe Rexha Reveals PCOS Diagnosis, Talks Body Positivity And 30-Pound Weight Gain
In May 2023, Bebe Rexha first appeared to open up about her struggle with her weight and facing the pressure to ”get lipo (liposuction).” In an interview with Gayle King on the SiriusXM show ‘Gayle King in the House,’ she said:
“I just found out recently I have PCOS, polycystic ovary syndrome, and a lot of women have it. A lot of women who have it don’t know. It causes facial hair, acne around the chin, weight gain — it makes it hard to get pregnant… A lot of women don’t know they have it because it takes a certain type of doctor and certain tests [to be diagnosed with the condition].”
Rexha told King that her weight fluctuations caused by PCOS had been difficult for her, along with navigating her new diagnosis and recovering from harmful diet-culture practices encouraged by the industry. She said:
“I’ve been struggling with food for forever. I remember starting out and getting my first record deal…and they said to me, ‘Are you ready to get into bootcamp shape? You need to lose 20 pounds to do this career.’ I was 127 pounds at the time, and I had people around me telling me to get lipo.”
In the same month, Bebe Rexha made similar statements about her weight on Jennifer Hudson‘s self-titled show. She admitted that she had gained at least 30 pounds due to her diagnosis.
One year later in May 2024, while doing a mukbang on TikTok, she again mentioned her diagnosis and used another video to explain more to her inquiring fans. Rexha and her weight fluctuations have also caused her to avoid red carpets, like the MTV VMAs in September 2023 and before that in July 2023, she appeared to have spit with her boyfriend Kenyan Safyari, who negatively commented on her weight in text messages.
